Monasteries and Cathedrals!!!
The Oxford Experience offers five weeks of one-week summer classes on a wide variety of subjects. This summer a class on monasteries and cathedrals was offered. For at least 30 years I have wanted a class on this subject! So, I signed up.
In addition to a few days in London, I prepared for the class by reading recommended books and visiting and revisiting monasteries and cathedrals in Durham and Yorkshire. When I got to Oxford, there were colleges to explore.
The class consisted of 8 women and 2 men, all from Australia or the US. We lived in the student rooms at Christ Church College, ate in the Great Hall, learned the history and development of church communities and architecture, and went on a field trip to Winchester and Salisbury.
